Interview with GL Snute on the biggest radiostation in Norway. He talks about going pro full time, what StarCraft is and some questions from listerners. English translation: Please not this interview is done on radio with a thight schedule, its pretty fast paced so some of the questions were followed up quite quickly by the radio host thus not always letting Snute finish everything he has to say. Overall a good interview and a small step to a bigger and more approved community in Norway! Also, my english is not the best. Please bare with me. RH = Radiohost QL = Question from listerners of the show, sent in through sms. S = Snute RH: Would you charaterize yourself as a pro gamer? S: Yes, I earn money through playing. RH: How would you describe the game for someone that dont know what it is? S: Its a mix og chess and poker, at the same time its really technical, its like playing a musical instrument. You have to be quick, precise and take the correct decisions at the correc time. RH: How popular is this game worldwide? S: Starcraft 2 is the most popular RTS game worldwide, without doubt. RH: I have heard the expression esport, is this esport and is it widley known? S: Yes. RH: In Norway? S: Its not that known in Norway, but we are hoping it will catch up? RH: How many pro gamers do we have? S: I only know about one more Norwegian that is commited full time for sc2. RH: So the the community in Norway is really small, but in the rest of the world its alot more popular right? S: Yes, there biggest community is in Korea, but there is also a great community in USA and Europe. RH: Now that you have decided going full time with Starcraft 2, are you considering going abroad to compete in other tournaments? S: Yes, I qualified for a tournament in Paris and WCG in Korea. WCG is comparable to the Olympic games. H: How is it to come to Korea. Do they welcome you like a superstar or a more normal fashion? S: Hehe, not like a superstar. But the more known koreans is threated like super stars, as well as some of the more known foreigners. RH: When in Korea, how do they pronounce your name? S: Well, its pretty funny, when i was in WCG I participated in 2 different events. The main event and a show match. I won the show match and I dont want to try mimic the casters was going to announce my name. It was hilarious. QL1: Shout out to Gaupen Gaming. Are you participating StarCraft 2 tournament on The Gathering this year? S: yes, morst likly! RH: Why did you choose to start full time with StarCraft 2? S: I started studing music on the university of Trondheim and playing along side with it. But as I started winning more tournaments, it triggered my mind to start playing proffesionally. This was autum last year. QL2: Do you stream your practice? And how can I watch that? S: Yes, you can find my stream on teamliquid.net, click my nick on the right side. RH Followup: How many viewers do you have when practicing? About 600 viewers. (Radiohost sounds impressed) QL3: How can you earn money from playing StarCraft 2? S: It comes from various sources, sponsorships, stream ads and tournament prize money. RH Followup: How much do you win from a typical Norwegian tournament? S: About $3400. QL4: Are you participating on Assembly February? S: Its a hard decision, its also a pretty big Norwegian tournament at the same time. So I will have to choose between a easier tournament or a more prestigeful tournament. RH: How much can you win if your the best player in the world? Is it like a million? S: We're not quite there yet, but definitly around $30 000 - 40 000 per tournament. RH: That's quite alot. The competition must be extremly hard. Would you recommend other Norwegians to go full time pro? S: I would not recommend it, but you have to follow your dreams. It's kind of like an American dream in Norway. QL5: How many hours are you practicing on a daily basis? I get that question alot. Usually I practice 5-6 hours a day in addition to planning stratgies, openers and doing research for upcomming matches. QL6: Are you going to participate in the GSL?
